Wingham District Rural School
Opening Day - 1933
In 1933, the school expanded with the opening of new buildings which are still used by Wingham Brush Public School today. These include the double-storey building, the current Admin block, the canteen and the some smaller outbuildings.

Many of the 1930s-era class photos submitted for these archives are not captioned, as the class and year are unknown. If you can help by identifying the year of any of these photos, please contact the webmaster by email at winghameducation150@gmail.com.
1933 - First Class
Younger students didn't have a school uniform in the 1930s and 1940s, and during the Great Depression and through the War Years and Rationing, many students - especially boys - attended school without shoes.
For special occasions - like Class Photo day - the boys may add a tie, or even a bowtie to their shorts and shirt. Girls would wear their Sunday Best frock, socks and shoes, sometimes with a hair ribbon.
While many of the older girls wore tunics with blouses and school ties, the older boys would wear "long pants" with braces, a shirt and tie, and on cooler days, a jacket.

When the school was expanded to include the first three years of High School, those years were referred to as the Super Primary.
For the first time, students from Wingham and the Upper Manning could attend the first three years of high school without travelling into Taree.
4th and 5th Form were still unavailable in Wingham.
